How to Create Roof in Autocad 2006 - Part 1 -

This time i`m gonna show you how to create a roof in Autocad 2006. Create a roof is a little bit hard, that`s why i split 3 parts for this tutorial. There are a few different trick to create a roof. My trick might be a little bit difficult, i don`t know, but i`m using this method since day one and plan to stick with it :D. From our sample model we have to build 2 roof. Let`s start with the roof number 1. Follow this steps :

1. Create a layer and name it roof, choose the color that you like. Draw a rectangle or polyline surrounds the outside of the wall from roof 1 area. See the pic below :

2. After you draw a rectangle or polyline, copy and put the duplicate side by side with the original. See the pic below :

3. Create a new layer and name it listplank and choose the color you like. On our sample model i set roof color to red and listplank color to blue. Now EXTRUDE (click on extrude icon on solid toolbar) roof and listplank with different value. Example roof 5 and listplank 15. See the pic below :

4. Now move the roof to the top of listplank. See the pic below :

5. Now we will rotate the roof and listplank. On menu bar choose MODIFY -> 3D OPERATION -> ROTATE 3D. Pick first and second point and insert 30 for angle value. See the pic below :

6.  Next step we will to mirror the object. Click on MIRROR icon on MODIFY toolbar. Pick mid point and rotate so its face to face with the original object. See the pic below :

7. Change your shade to Gouraud shaded and now you can see the result.

I will show you how to slice the roof and listplank and fill the void wall on next tutorial. If you have question, feel free to ask me :)

Okayyy. Now i will show you how to create wall in Autocad 2006. Just follow the steps below :

                1. First, let`s create a simple floor plan with dimension like the picture below. I assume you already know how to draw line, arc, rectangle and other simple 2D element in autocad.

                2. Change your view to SE VIEWPORT. You can find the icon on VIEW toolbar.

                3. Now create a REGION between 2 line. If you don`t know how to create it yet, read it here. Do it to all wall element / layer.

                4. Now we`re moving to create a wall. On SOLID toolbar click on EXTRUDE icon or type EXTRUDE on command line. Choose the wall region that you already created and insert value, example 300 cm. Pay attention to the direction of the axis. You can playing with UCS. Just make sure axis X is pointing upwards. See the picture below, and do it for entire wall element.

                5. Repeat #4 step, only this time is for door frame element. In the pic below the height of door frame is 210 cm. You can fill the emptiness above the door, which is still wall element, with draw a rectangle that parallel to the existing wall area.

                6. The pic below is the result after you EXTRUDE all element you need ( wall & door frame ).

If you have any question, feel free to ask me :)
